Residents Want Mayfield Village to Do Something About Neglected Property

A 10-acre parcel owned by hasn't been properly maintained, according to area residents who want village officials to fix it up.

Laura Lynch of Beech Hill Road was joined by some neighbors when she complained at a Village Council meeting this week. The land is at the corner of Beech Hill and Bonnieview Drive and in addition to high grass, there are deep ruts from when service department workers practiced using a back hoe.

"It's a hazard," said Lynch, who suggested that the space would be perfect for a dog park. "It's a nice place to walk a dog because there's not a lot of traffic."

Mayor Bruce Rinker assured residents that village crews would be out soon to mow the grass, which usually isn't done until later in the year, according to Service Director Douglas Metzung.

"The history of that piece of property is that it's very wet," Metzung said, adding that only the front portion gets mowed. "We've only mowed the first 30 feet or so."

As for finding a use for the land, Rinker said he would like to see something done with the property. That was the idea 15 years ago when the land was donated to the city.

"There was a storage tank for surges and they took it out and put a pump station in," Metzung said. "They gave the property to the village and we had a meeting with residents of the area."

Metzung said proposals included a path connecting neighborhoods and a small park.

"People were adamant and said no," he said. "They didn't want it disturbed."
