Smoke Detector Purchase Program Offered Again

Mayfield Village sold almost 650 units last year.

smoke detector purchase program was not only popular, it was life-saving.

Robley Lane residents who bought smoke detectors when the village launched the program last August were because of the units.

"I witnessed that fire personally," Fire Chief David Mohr said. "They would have perished."

The program is being offered again through a letter, dated May 25, being sent to residents. As of Monday, orders had already been placed for 24 units.

The First Alert One Link Model SA 511B smoke alarm is being offered for $22 each. The devices cost from $35 to $75 online and are not available at local retailers, according to Mohr.

The village also will offer "buy two, get one free" to residents, with a limit of one free detector per household.

Order forms must be returned by Friday, June 29. Delivery of the smoke alarms is expected in late July or early August.
