St. Paschal Baylon Students Receive Literary Excellence Recognition

Saint Paschal elementary students received awards at the 2017 Scholastic Writing Competition

Eight eighth grade students and three seventh grade students from Saint Paschal Baylon School recently received recognition in the 2017 Scholastic Writing competition. Eighth graders Megan Fowler and Anthony Santagata won the 2017 Scholastic Writing Silver Key Award. Judges looked for works that exemplified originality, technical skill, and personal voice.

Two students, Megan Fowler and Anthony Santagata, earned Scholastic Writing Silver Key Awards. Eighth graders Gabi Basic, Sam Dornback, Maggie Goff, Francesca Longano, Celine Najm, and Gabby Repko earned Honorable Mention as did seventh graders Antonio Annandono, Julian Guggenheim, and Kallista Hayes.

These junior high students attended a reception to be held at The Cleveland Institute of Art on Saturday, January 14, 2017.

Since 1923, this national contest presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers has recognized the creative talents of young adults in grades seven through twelve in 29 categories. Students across America submitted 320,000 original works.

In our specific region, Saint Paschal Baylon School was the only Catholic grade school that entered and won awards for creative writing.

“Our students truly asserted their creative talents,” commented Mrs. Mary Connors, junior high English teacher. “We are proud of these gifted Saint Paschal Baylon junior high students.”

A National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, St. Paschal Baylon Roman Catholic School educates students in grades Pre-K through eight. Its mission is to foster Christ-centered values, while cultivating a strong academic curriculum in an environment of dignity and respect.
