Veterans Remembered Today in Mayfield Heights, Highland Heights
More than 41 million people have served in the U.S. military during wartime.

Ceremonies honoring those who have sacrificed in service of our country will take place at 10 a.m. today at the Veterans Peace Memorial, 5827 Highland Rd., and the Roll of Honor Memorial outside of City Hall, 6154 Mayfield Rd.
The Highland Heights program is "A Day of Remembrance" and there will be a reception in the Community Center after the ceremony.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, 41,892,128 people served in the United States military during wartime from 1775 to 1991. There were 651,031 battle deaths, 308,800 other deaths in theaters of operations and 230,254 other deaths in nontheater locations.
From Oct. 7, 2001 to May 21, 2012, the Global War on Terrorism has resulted in the deaths of 4,409 members of active duty units and the National Guard and Reserve.
There are 22,234,000 living veterans, 16,962,000 of whom served during wartime.
