1. City Planning Commission Meets Tuesday
The Shaker Heights Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday and will hold a public hearing to discuss plans for a new RTA station at Lee Road and Van Aken Boulevard.
2. Tasty Tomatoes Lessons At Shaker Lakes
Learn to make the most of tasty tomatoes by preserving them through dehydrating, freezing and canning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes. Class includes samples and recipes for home. Yum.

3. Kids Pick:Â Listen To Back-To-School Stories On A School Bus
Listen to stories about school, friends, and fun on a real Shaker School bus. The event is at 10 a.m. Aug. 7 at Shaker Heights Library. The event is free.

4. Kids Pick: Drop-In Toddler Play At Hanna Perkins Center
This Friday, Aug. 9 at 9:30 a.m. is an opportunity for parents/caregivers of young children to get out of the house, escape hot weather or keep a regular play date to spend loosely structured fun time together.Â
In the developmentally mindful environment of the Reinberger Parent/Child Resource Center, parents and caregivers can play with their children to encourage mastery of age-appropriate skills. During drop-in play, adults participate with their children in dramatic play, puzzles, a collection of toys and books, as well as hands-on activities including science, gardening, snacks and arts-and-craft projects.

5. Bird WalkÂ
Observe birds throughout the Shaker parklands at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. Meet in the Nature Center parking lot. The event is free. Binoculars available for use with ID.
