Lomond Alley Exit To Permanently Close In Shaker Heights

The small street has provided cut-through access to the Warrensville Center-Chagrin intersection for years. Soon, the street will be closed.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — A small road connecting a Wendy's parking lot to Warrensville Center Road and Chagrin Boulevard will become a "no outlet" street on May 6.

Lomond Alley connects the parking lot behind Wendy's to the Warrensville Center-Chagrin intersection. On Monday, May 6, Lomond Alley will no longer connect to the intersection, the city of Shaker Heights announced. The east end of the street will be closed, making it a "no outlet" street.

Access to and from the parking lot was always meant to be one-way, the city said. However, traffic in both directions on Lomond Alley was common. City officials are hoping the closing of the road will improve safety in the area.

Lomond Alley runs behind the parking lot on Van Aken South, connecting Lomond Boulevard to the Wendy's parking lot. Juma anchors the west end of the road and Lucy's anchors the east end. Many patrons of the fast food restaurant have made use of the street throughout its years of service.

As part of its continued work on the Van Aken District, Shaker Heights has further improvements planned for the Warrensville Center-Chagrin intersection. To that end, the city hopes cut-through options will no longer be needed.

Wendy's is actually rebuilding its location, which gave the city the green light to begin work on eliminating Lomond Alley's access to the intersection. The restaurant is closing on May 5 as the site is prepared for construction. Demolition of the existing building will begin May 13 and construction of the new building is expected to last about 120 days.
