Shaker Heights COVID-19 ZIP Code Updates

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH —There have been nearly 2,800 COVID-19 cases associated with a Shaker Heights ZIP code, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

The 44118 ZIP code — which stretches into Shaker Heights — has seen 2,764 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began. That's up from 2,675 cases two weeks ago.

A second ZIP code connected to the city, 44122, has had 2,504 cases among residents; and a third ZIP, 44120, code has had 1,998 cases.

Statewide Picture

While the nation mourns the more than 500,000 Americans who have died during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ohio is cautiously optimistic that the virus' threat is receding slightly.

Health officials in the Buckeye State are vaccinating older Ohioans and people with chronic medical conditions. Gov. Mike DeWine describes his strategy as protecting "our most vulnerable."

Ohioans 65 and older account for more than 87 percent of Ohio's 16,000 COVID-19 deaths.

The strategy has led to decreasing numbers of cases and deaths in nursing homes and similar facilities. Last week, there were 343 new COVID-19 cases in nursing homes. That's down from the state's peak of 2,832 cases in one week in December.
