Shaker Heights Schools Closing For Election Day

Since many of the district's buildings are used as polling locations, students will get the day off.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — The Shaker Heights Schools announced that all buildings will be closed on March 17, 2020, an election day. Many of the district's facilities are used as polling locations during elections.

While students will have the day off, staffers will take part in a professional in-service day. The Board of Education said the decision to close all school buildings to students was made because of safety concerns and worries over limited parking.

The district will also close its buildings on November 5, the 2019 election date. Here are all of the remaining days off for students during this school year:

  • November 5: Election Day
  • November 25-29: Thanksgiving Break
  • December 23-January 3: Winter Break
  • January 17: Professional Day
  • January 20: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • February 17: Presidents’ Day
  • February 28: Professional Day/Conference Day
  • March 17: Election Day
  • March 23-27: Spring Break
  • April 10: Good Friday
  • May 25: Memorial Day
