Shireen Bhatia, a junior at Laurel School, was selected to attend the institute, where students heard from leaders of hunger relief efforts and presented their own work.

Laurel School junior Shireen Bhatia recently attended the 26th annual World Food Prize Global Youth Institute in Des Moines, Iowa, where 150 students from 27 states and territories and five countries heard from leaders of hunger relief efforts, and presented their own work.
The program was part of the Norman E. Borlaug International Symposium, devoted to discussing the world's hunger and food security issues, according to a media release about Bhatia's trip, which was Oct. 18 to Oct. 20.
To get the opportunity to participate, Bhatia researched global food security issues in a country, submitted a paper about what they learned and presented to the experts and scientists at the institute.
