Shaker Lakes Picnic Celebrates Hummingbirds, Bees and Butterflies

Bring a sack lunch to the Family Pollinator Picnic, a celebration of the insects that fruits, vegetables and flowers rely on to thrive

Shaker Lakes will host a family picnic with a local folk singer, games, crafts and more June 22.

The Family Pollinator Picnic celebrates hummingbirds, bats, bees, beetles, butterflies and flies that carry pollen from one plant to another as they collect nectar and pollinate about 75 percent of flowering plants and crops.

Children can participate in pollinating games, make butterfly or bee masks, and take photos in bee costumes.

The event will also feature a demonstration of working beehives maintained on the Historical Society property.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Shaker Historical Society.
