Stewardship Saturday And More Events This Week In Shaker Heights

Check out these five events on tap this week in Shaker Heights.

It's Monday, and that means we've put together this list of things going on in Shaker Heights to help make your week a little brighter, easier and more fun. For a full list of things to do this week, look at the Patch calendar of events.

1. City Council Work Session Canceled

The Shaker Heights City Council work session scheduled for Monday night has been canceled.

2. New School Orientations

If your family is new to Shaker Heights Schools or if your student is transitioning to a new school, you should consider attending one of the orientation sessions, which begin this week. You can find a complete schedule of these events here.

3. Stewardship Saturday

Join Nature Center at Shaker Lakes Natural Resource Manager Sarah Cech for two hours of stewardship on the Nature Center’s property. The event is set for Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. until noon.

You can Help maintain the 20 acres of forest, marsh and stream by removing invasive plants and collecting native seeds. Tools and instructions will be given at the start of each session. Tasks will vary based on land management needs at that time. Bring a water bottle and wear waterproof boots or borrow a pair from the Nature Center.

Stewardship Saturdays are open to groups and individuals 13 years of age and older.

4. Kids Pick: Listen To Back-To-School Stories On A School Bus

Listen to stories about school, friends, and fun on a real Shaker School bus. The event is at 10 a.m. Aug. 13 at Shaker Heights Library. The event is free.

5. Book Discussion at Library

Read and discuss the book, Behind the beautiful Forevers: Life, Life Death and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo.
