SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Police have taken one person into custody in connection with a series of thefts that have occurred throughout Shaker Heights over the past several weeks. Investigators said the suspect wore a reflective traffic vest to look like a utility worker during his crime spree.
Bobby Weatherspoon, of Maple Heights, has been charged with breaking and entering, Shaker Heights police said. Additional charges will be presented to a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury for consideration.
"We anticipate charging additional suspects as a result of this investigation," Shaker Heights police said in a statement.

Weatherspoon and others are accused of targeting homes and cars that were left unlocked. They would wear reflective vests to look like utility workers or joggers, police said.
Residents shared surveillance videos and photographs with police, aiding investigators. "We ask that residents remain vigilant in efforts to recognize suspicious behavior, as well as work with our department to investigate issues of common concern," police said.

Since the suspects were targeting locations that appeared to be unlocked, police are asking residents to be vigilant about ensuring garage doors are closed, cars and houses are locked and personal property is properly secured.
"This will significantly reduce the opportunity for crime and send a strong signal that there are no easy targets in Shaker Heights," police said.
