Utility Box Design Competition Announced In Shaker Heights

The Shaker Arts Council is asking for submissions for Chagrin Boulevard utility box designs.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — The Shaker Arts Council announced an art competition and issued a call for artists on Monday.

The competition — called Painting the Town — will see artists design the utility boxes located along Chagrin Boulevard. Submissions must come from artists that are 21 or older and live or work in either Shaker Heights or the Shaker Heights Schools.

Submitted designs will be reviewed and judged by a selection committee. All submissions are due by Friday, June 14 at 5 p.m.

Several crucial documents for artists have been shared online, on the Shaker Arts Council website. Prospective participants can download the dimensions of the utility boxes, obtain an artist submission form and get more details on the contest on the website.

The Shaker Arts Council also announced it was working with the Beachwood Art Council on a juried art exhibit featuring artists from both Shaker Heights and Beachwood. The "Good Neighbors" exhibit will debut Wednesday, June 5.

The co-produced exhibit will be housed at the Beachwood Community Center.
