Van Aken District Holding Sunset Market Sept. 6

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Shaker Heights' new downtown area, the Van Aken District, is inviting the public to come check out the new community hub on September 6, for the first Sunset Market. Less than two weeks later, on September 16, the Van Aken District will host Cleveland Flea's inaugural East Side Flea.

“It’s hard to believe how much we have accomplished in less than two years since our groundbreaking,” says Jason Russell, neighborhood general manager of the Van Aken District. “We are very much looking forward to bringing the public in to experience the passion that we have put into every aspect of Shaker’s new downtown.”

A host of companies are slated to open between September and the end of the year, including: Mitchell's Ice Cream, Andrews Colour Atelier, Bonobos, Double Rainbow, Eddy’s Barbershop, SEE Eyewear and more. Suburban Pediatrics and Upstairs Apartment Lobby both opened in August. McGlinchey Stafford, ABA Insurance Services and Paragon Advisors, which opened their offices earlier this summer, have already brought 150 jobs to the District.

The Van Aken District features both retail space, dining experiences, and offices. There is also a 21,000 square foot Market Hall. The Upstairs at Van Aken began welcoming residents into apartments in August.

“The Van Aken District is a wonderfully unique place that is built for discovery around every corner,” says Jon Ratner, Chairman of RMS Corporation. “Our vision was to create everyone’s favorite neighborhood hangout and a downtown reflective of Shaker but open to all and unlike anything you’ll find in Northeast Ohio.”
