Watch The Shaker Heights Marching Band In Memorial Day Parade
The city's annual Memorial Day parade included a rousing performance from the high school marching band.
SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — The city's annual Memorial Day parade was Monday. After a 9 a.m. ceremony at Shaker Heights City Hall, the parade moved east to Thornton Park along Van Aken Boulevard. One of the highlights of this year's event was the Shaker Heights High School Marching Band.
Accompanied by cheerleaders and a red and white banner announcing who they were, the band played through the oppressive heat on Monday. Temperatures hit 93 degrees at one point, according to the National Weather Service. Imagine carrying a tuba in that weather.
"Thank you to all of our students, faculty, board members and administrators (including incoming Interim Superintendent and Army veteran Stephen M. Wilkins) who walked in today’s parade. Happy start of summer, Shaker!" said the For Shaker Schools Facebook page, which captured video of Monday's parade.
