Council signs off on $22,000 cameras

Watch out drivers — Stow Police will soon be able to record your every move on the street.

Stow City Council recently approved spending $21,680 on new video dash camera recording equipment for the police department's four new cars.

The video equipment will be provided by north Texas firm WatchGuard Video, which bills itself as "the largest provider of in-car video systems for law enforcement," according to the company's website.

The new dash cameras will be installed in the four new, 2013 Ford Utility Police Interceptor SUVs the department plans to buy this year for $107,584.

"This will bring our complete fleet up to a camera in every car," Stow Police Chief Louis Dirker said.

Dirker added that the new cameras will be compatable with a planned, that will allow officers to download video from the dash cams directly to the police department servers without having to remove any equipment from the car.
