Weekend Wrap : Mixed results for the area's college sports teams

Strong performances on track and field tempered by a 1-4 weekend on the court.

In line with the unsettled weather it was a time of mixed fortunes for Tulsa-area college teams over the weekend.

Tulsa’s men’s basketball team delivered one of the highpoints, maintaining their 100% home record by taking down #16 Kansas State 47-46 at the Reynolds Center on Saturday. The 7-2 Golden Hurricanes welcome New Orleans on Thursday before leaving for Connecticut where they’ll take on the 5-4 Dayton Flyers in a nationally-televised game.

On Sunday Tulsa’s women’s team fell on the road, losing 60-73 to Arkansas State in Jonesboro. Despite having three players score in double figures Tulsa slipped to 5-5 overall. They welcome the 2-6 Little Rock Trojans to Tulsa next Monday, December 17th.

The RiverHawks men (5-4) travel to Rolla, Missouri next Monday to face the 2-6 Missouri’s S&T Miners. NSU’s women’s team (2-7) travel to Commerce, Texas on Tuesday 18th for a non-conference match with Texas A&M.

On Sunday Rogers State women’s basketball squad struggled in a rescheduled matchup with Ada’s East Central Tigers, falling 59-73. The Hillcats (2-6) welcome the 7-5 Randall Saints to Claremore this Friday for their last contest of 2018. The game tips at 5:30pm.

The highpoints of the weekend were undoubtedly the Tulsa’s Track & Field achievements in Pittsbug, Kansas, starting when redshirt-junior Aleks Rapp won gold in the first event of the meet, the men's weight throw.

A full team performance from the squad saw several other Hurricanes take podium places, most noticeably in the men’s 3,000 meters when Tulsa placed four finishers inside the top-10.

This was the first outing of the season for the Track & Field team. The squad will resume action on January 11th in Fayetteville at the Arkansas Invitational.
