Candidate To Run Against 30-Year Incumbent For Worcester 7th District

Millbury Selectman Nicholas Lazzaro is running against Rep. Paul Frost.

WORCESTER COUNTY, MA — A local business owner and Millbury Selectman announced his candidacy for State Representative of Worcester 7th District, a seat currently held by a 30-year incumbent.

Nicholas Lazzaro, 25, launched his campaign on Friday. He is seeking a position in the Massachusetts State Legislature that would represent Auburn, Charlton, Leicester, Millbury, and Oxford.

Lazzaro served on the Millbury School Committee for 3 years, as a Selectman in Millbury for 2 years, and owned multiple businesses in town. He said his experience has prepared him well as a state representative.

"I know what businesses are facing, and I know what young people and our seniors are facing in our communities," he said. "I bring in local government experience, married with private sector experience, and advanced professional degrees."

Lazzaro said the single most pressing issue that constituents face is affordability. He expressed concern that many residents are unable to afford rent. He also warned about the growing role of LLCs and private equity firms buying up housing and renting it out.

"I'm seeing people not able to get into homes or out of homes where seniors can't downsize because they can't rent at an affordable rate," Lazzaro said. "A big part of my platform is going to be taking on some of these corporations that are taking everyone for a ride."

Lazzaro attended Millbury High School, the College of the Holy Cross, and completed a master's of Business Administration at Boston College. He ran for a seat on the Board of Selectmen in Millbury in a contested six-candidate race, finishing as the top vote-getter.

"It's been a thrill and an honor to be able to work on the local level in enacting policies that support students, support taxpayers and homeowners and renters in our communities," Lazzaro said. "But a big part of my campaign for state representative and why I'm running is we really need a champion at the state house, someone who's going to fight for everyday families time and time again."

Lazzaro wants to make clear that his priority is putting people first.

"Some people might be hesitant on, you know, electing another Democrat," he said. " I will say that putting people first is my priority. It's not about the politics."
