60 Elementary Students Graduate From Pedestrian Safety Program
The students participating in the 'Bringing Leadership, Arts & School Together' program came from Orenco and Quatama elementary schools.

HILLSBORO, OR - From The City of Hillsboro: Hillsboro Mayor Steve Callaway recently joined City of Hillsboro Public Works and Parks & Recreation Department employees, as well as Hillsboro School District staff, to celebrate the December 2017 graduation of sixty Orenco and Quatama Elementary School students from the Safe Routes to School Pedestrian Safety Training program.
The Pedestrian Safety Training program, a partnership between the City of Hillsboro and the Hillsboro School District, introduces elementary-aged students enrolled in the Bringing Leadership, Arts & Sports Together (BLAST) after-school program to real world situations they may encounter while walking or biking to school.
During the training program, students learned safe pedestrian behaviors, including how to properly cross the street in a crosswalk, where to safely walk, and how to be seen in parking lots, on sidewalks, and in driveways.

The Pedestrian Safety Training was funded through the Oregon Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant program awarded to the City of Hillsboro.
The SRTS program strives to create safe, convenient, and fun opportunities for children to bicycle and walk to and from schools. On a broader level, SRTS helps to improve safety and reduce traffic, fuel consumption, and air pollution.
