Thank you for your dedication to maintaining and protecting the Hillsboro community’s public buildings and grounds, transportation system, water treatment and distribution system, sanitary sewer and stormwater collection systems, and other essential facilities and infrastructure while facing the ongoing challenges of COVID-19.

Parks & Recreation Department

The Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department inspires and expands the minds and horizons of community members of all ages and positively impacts the economic health of the community by enabling access to recreation, nature, culture and adventure. Fun Facts:

  • Manage more than 1,500 acres of park land, open space, and unique recreational facilities.
  • New in the last year is the Hidden Creek Community Center, with two stories and 51,000 square feet, this state-of-the art facility has something for everyone. Visit the Hidden Creek Community Center webpage to learn more.
  • Coming soon is the first ever inclusive playground to be built in Hillsboro.

Water Department

The Hillsboro Water Department is committed to providing drinking water of highest quality and sufficient quantity to more than 85,000 customers, while protecting and providing stewardship for our community’s most vital resource. Visit the Water Department webpage to learn more.

Fun Facts:

  • On average, the department supplies over 260 million gallons of clean and safe drinking water annually.
  • To address this future need, a second source of water supplied from the mid-Willamette River and treated at a state-of-art filtration plant will help serve the Hillsboro community along with the upper-Tualatin River for the next 100 years. Learn more about Our Reliable Water.

Public Works Department

The Public Works Department is dedicated to excellence, integrity, and stewardship. The department has five divisions, which work together closely to ensure that Hillsboro community members enjoy properly built and maintained streets, sanitary sewer, storm drainage systems, and city support services.

Division Facts:

  • Capital Projects and Development Services:
    • Oversees the design and construction of public roadways, public buildings, sanitary sewer systems, and surface water systems, plans and placement of new traffic control features, and provides plan review, permitting, and inspection services for private development projects and the City’s own infrastructure projects.
    • The Jackson School Road Improvement Project construction started in 2020. This project is ahead of schedule and will be completed in fall 2022. Learn more about the Jackson School Road project.
  • Facilities and Fleet:
    • Facilities is responsible for over 1 million square feet of buildings and over 40 Facilities. Key sites include Hillsboro Stadium and Ron Tonkin Field.
    • Fleet Services maintains 556 active vehicles and equipment valued at over 37 million dollars. This division was named as one of the top 100 fleets in the United States for sustainability.
  • Sanitary and Stormwater Management:
    • This division is made up of both Environmental Services and Operations.
    • Sanitary Sewer infrastructure consists of miles of sanitary pipe lines distributed throughout the City. Crews work throughout the year to inspect, clean, and maintain both sanitary and stormwater lines.
    • Stormwater infrastructure includes catch basins, manholes, miles of underground storm pipes, miles of open channels, water quality facilities, and outfalls. Visit the Sanitary and Stormwater webpage to learn more.
  • Transportation:
    • Whether you travel by car, bicycle, on foot, or by public transit, we take care of the roads, sidewalks, and traffic resources to get you where you need to go. Learn how you can help keep Hillsboro’s roadways safe for travel.
    • The Traffic section is responsible for placement and maintenance of traffic control measures, stop signs, speed zones, traffic signals, street lighting, pedestrian and school beacons, parking and pavement striping, and markings.
    • The Street section maintains the public right-of-way through pavement sealing, pavement patching, pavement resurfacing, ditch and culvert cleaning, tree pruning in response to hazard situations, right-of way mowing, and property owner outreach.
  • Administration and Finance:
    • Provides management guidance and administrative support in planning, budgeting, and implementing effective levels of service in areas of development services, engineering, equipment maintenance, operations, and facilities maintenance.
