County Commission Chair Candidates Agree To Community Chat

From Pacific University:The candidates for the Washington County Board of Commissioners chair position will take part in a community conversation at Pacific University on Monday, Sept. 24. Bob Terry, a current Washington County commissioner, and Kathryn Harrington, a member of Metro Council regional government, will discuss issues facing the county and how they will approach them, and then take questions from attendees. The forum begins at 7 p.m. and takes place in Taylor Auditorium (Marsh Hall, room 216) on the university's Forest Grove Campus (2043 College Way).

Admission is free, but seating is limited and early arrival is recommended. Washington County is facing issues of growth, conservation, water resources, traffic, and land use. In addition, the county commission is the governing body for the second largest urban population center in the state — unincorporated suburban Washington County — which would be by far the second largest Oregon city if it were incorporated. “The contest to select a new county commission chair is, arguably, the second most important candidate election in the state after the governor’s race,” said Jim Moore, event moderator and director of political outreach for the university’s Tom McCall Center for Civic Engagement. “The new chair will be a crucial player in the county’s role as the economic engine for the entire state.” The forum is a chance for Washington County voters to hear firsthand from the candidates in advance of the general election to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
