First-Time Moms Offered Visiting Nurse Services by Washington County

New program will help low-income, first-time mothers.

A new program offered by Washington County will provide some much needed assistance for first-time, low-income mothers.

The Nurse-Family Partnership will offer nurse home visitation services.

The visits will start early in pregnancy and continue until the child's second birthday.

The nurses will offer pregnancy education including nutrition, when to call the doctor, labor and delivery preparation, breastfeeding preparation and more. They will monitor weight gain and blood pressure throughout pregnancy.

"We are excited to start offering Nurse-Family Partnership services to our community," says Jessica Nye, Maternal and Child Health program supervisor with Washington County Public Health. "This program has the ability to change the life trajectories and health outcomes for both mothers and children, benefiting multiple generations."

The county says that among the benefits of the program is improved prenatal health, increased maternal employment, and improved child school readiness.
