Recently, we added William Hernandez’s artwork, The Bridge of Love, to our first floor elevators in the Civic Center. Mr. Hernandez’s art is beautiful and highlights the importance of inclusion, connection, and relationships.

The Bridge of Love is a great example of community members’ voices making our City better. In 2019, a team of City employees sought community input on how to make public spaces more welcoming and inclusive for our diverse community — and how to remove barriers for accessing City services.

Making our public spaces warm, inviting, and colorful can make the difference in knowing you belong in your City government’s buildings. When diverse community members and cultures are reflected, it signals their importance.

There are many examples of this in Hillsboro, including Shute Seeds at Shute Park Library and the Hello Neighbor project. Even adding tables, chairs, and plants in the Civic Center Plaza sends a message:

Hillsboro is your city. Together, we create community.
