After months of research and planning, YAC students are excited to present this informational community event to families and individuals of all ages across the state. Working together, we can help the community recover and thrive again.
“The pandemic has been so much harder than any of us could have imagined,” said Erin Morrison, a senior on YAC. “It was so exciting when the first vaccines were approved, but we quickly realized how overwhelming and frustrating the process was for so many people trying to get the vaccine and how much misinformation was out there.”
Meet the Town Hall Speakers
- Dr Richard Adams Kellis: OHSU Healthcare provider Dr. Kellis will speak on vaccine development, options, safety, its importance to all populations, and the benefit to communities.
- Nafisa Fai: Washington County Commissioner Fai will provide information on the public health care system and equitable access to the vaccine.
- Tina Edlund: Governor Kate Brown’s Special Advisor for COVID-19 Vaccines will explain the state government’s vital role in coordinating the statewide vaccine rollout.
- Dave Baden: Oregon Health Authority’s Chief Financial Officer will address the organization and distribution process of the COVID-19 vaccine in Oregon.
Informing the Community
In the past year, we’ve all felt COVID-19’s unprecedented impact on our lives. Sadly, so many people in our community have been seriously affected and are struggling. Thankfully, new vaccines have been developed and approved to fight the virus and are starting to offer hope for ending the pandemic.
YAC members want to help ensure all communities are informed about the COVID-19 vaccine and where to get it. Bringing together student leaders from five different high schools around Hillsboro, YAC serves and improves the Hillsboro community through positive activities, appreciating diversity, advising policy, and forming supportive relationships between youth and local government.
“From our first meeting, it was clear that we wanted to help the vulnerable members of our community,” said YAC Board member Mariana Monroy Gonzalez. ”We talked to professionals ranging from firefighters to doctors to find where we could fill a need. It occurred to us that we could be a bridge in the community to bring reliable information from experts directly to the public.”
