Library Services Set to Expand on March 22 with Browsing, Computer Access
Brookwood Library will have a 50-patron limit; Shute Park Library’s capacity will be 25 patrons
Hillsboro Public Library staff are working to prepare for an expansion of Library services starting on Monday, March 22, including indoor browsing and computer access.
Library patrons will be allowed inside the Brookwood and Shute Park libraries for increased “express” visits of up to 30 minutes for holds pickup and browsing, and up to 60 minutes to use a computer.
“We are so excited to be opening further for the community – with spring around the corner, it feels like especially the right time. We’re all ready for some positive changes and look forward to welcoming people even more fully back to their Hillsboro libraries,” said Hillsboro Public Library Director Hillary Ostlund.
“I’ve heard from dozens of residents how eager they are to browse again and fill up a bag with books. I’m so happy to be able to now say, ‘You can do this starting March 22!’”
Health protocols include capacity limits
Capacity at both locations will be limited to begin with to ensure the safety for our community, staff, and volunteers. Brookwood Library will have a 50-patron limit; Shute Park Library’s capacity will be 25 patrons.
In keeping with health and safety protocols established in the COVID-19 Library Use Expectations, face coverings will continue to be required, as well as maintaining physical distancing.
“Our staff, volunteers, and community members’ safety are always at the forefront of our decision-making,” said Ostlund. “When you come to visit the libraries, it may feel different than you’re used to; but we have taken all safety precautions to make your experience safe. We ask that you be mindful of the space and others by following our visit guidelines.”
In the meantime, HPL Express holds pickup and curbside services will continue as an alternative option for those who prefer not to visit indoors.
HPL Express holds pickup is offered daily from 12 pm to 6 pm daily, with additional curbside services hours of 10 am to 12 pm.
