Hillsboro Patch's Holiday Fun Guide

HILLSBORO, OR — There are more than a few ways to get in the holiday spirit in Hillsboro this year. You have the chance to win a contest for Best Beard at the Hillsboro Chamber Holiday Celebration. Want to glide your way through the season? Throw on a pair of ice skates at the Winter Village. There are also some great holiday music options from "Handel Christmas" to the Portland Opera's performance of Hansel and Gretel. Check out the full list of Hillsboro holiday events below.

• The Winter Concert “Handel Christmas” will be taking place Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Liberty High School Auditorium. "For Unto Us A Child Is Born," "A Holst Christmas" and "The Christmas Song (Chesnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)" are just a few of the songs that will be performed. Don't miss special guests Anna Rikli singing soprano, contralto Heather Peterson and Tony Peterson singing bass along with the Liberty High School Choir.

• The Portland Opera will be performing a family-friendly rendition of Hansel and Gretel at the Walters Cultural Arts Center in Hillsboro on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. This one-hour opera classic features colorful, accessible production that can be enjoyed by ages 6 and up.

• Spoken Word: Tales by the Fire with Bag & Baggage takes place on December 20 at the Walters Cultural Arts Center at 7 p.m. It's a great opportunity to celebrate love this holiday season. The event features Bag&Baggage actors Peter Schuyler and Cassie Greer sharing short stories, excerpts and essays from Oscar Wilde, David Sedaris, Owen Powell, Nicole Krauss and more. This one is strictly for adult audiences, so leave the kids at home.

• Winter Village at Orenco Station Plaza runs from Dec. 2 - Jan. 2 and features the only open-air ice skating experience in the areas. There will be carolers, shopping, dining and kids' activities. Come on by whether it's your first time skating or a holiday tradition.

5. The Hillsboro Chamber Annual Holiday Celebration is a 21+ event at Scholls Valley Lodge on Thursday, Dec. 8. Attendees wearing a plaid flannel will receive a complimentary raffle ticket. Enjoy festive refreshments, raffles and a prize for best beard. Start growing your beard today.
