Hillsboro School District: South Meadows Middle School, Witch Hazel Elementary on Lockout

(UPDATED) Students are currently safe and classes are continuing as usual while police investigate a social media threat Tuesday, April 18.

HILLSBORO, OR – Around 10 a.m. Tuesday Hillsboro School District officials announced a lockout at both South Meadows Middle School and Witch Hazel Elementary School as a precaution in response to a potential social media threat made against South Meadows.

The lockout was lifted around 10:45 a.m. according to school district spokeswoman Beth Graser.

Hillsboro police spokesman Sgt. Eric Bunday told Patch two teen boys –– 13 and 14 years old –– have been arrested on suspicion of first degree disorderly conduct. Both were referred to the Washington County Sheriff's Office Juvenile Department.

According to school district communications specialist Marleen Zytniowski, students are currently safe and classes are operating as usual.

The lockout means no one is allowed in or out of the school facilities while Hillsboro police investigate the threat.
