Hillsboro Schools: Board Votes To Extend The Year
Board's plan to make up for school days involves extending the year and keep late starts and early releases.

Hillsboro students - remember all those extra days you got off over the past two months because of the snow and ice? Those nine snow days? Well, the school board voted Tuesday night and they have news for you: that day you had off on April 14th? Now a school day.
And the last day of school is now Friday June 23rd.
The district added the week of June 19-June 23 for all students K-11. For seniors, last days of school and graduation dates are unchanged.

April 14 had been a teacher preparation day.
The board also decided to move forward with a plan to keep early releases and late starts on Wednesdays.

The district said that "the loss of instructional days is particularly impactful" students taking AP and IB courses and preparing for exams in May.
As a result, staff have created plans to provide additional time for their AP and IB students through activities such as before- and/or after-school study sessions, and Saturday morning study sessions .
