Holiday Package Theft: 'Bait' Package Leads To Another Arrest

Early Tuesday morning, the Washington county Sheriff's Office made their second arrest in a week after another 'bait' package was snatched

HILLSBORO, OR – For the second time in a week, the Washington County Sheriff's Office has arrested someone that they saw tried to steal a 'bait' package that they'd placed. A bait package contains a GPS tracker that lets law enforcement go to wherever the package has been taken.

Deputies say that around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, they responded to a GPS tracker signaling that a bait package had been removed from a home in the area of West Baseline Road and Southwest 170th Avenue.

Within three minutes, deputies and Officer Jered Lutu from his Beaverton Police Department and his K9 partner, Toa, converged on an a series of apartments.

Using a beacon to track the package to specific location, they entered the apartment of 44-year-old Lehua Kawaha.

They found the stolen package in her bedroom.

Kawaha is charged with theft, mail theft, and a parole violation.
