Man Who Struck Tigard Police Officer Found Guilty On All Counts

Darby McBride was convicted on all charges after a three-day trial. He was convicted of striking off-duty Tigard officer Matthew Barbee.

HILLSBORO, OR – Almost a year to the day that Tigard Police Officer Matthew Barbee was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, the man who struck him has been convicted. Darby McBride was convicted on all counts in Washington County Court.

Barbee was off-duty on December 14, 2017 when he had car trouble and pulled off to the side of the road on Highway 26.

As he waited for roadside assistance, Barbee was struck by a SUV driven by McBride.

McBride was indicted in March, 2018 on charges of assault, reckless driving, and criminal mischief.

He was convicted after a three-day trial and will be sentenced on Jan. 4, 2019.
