Minter Bridge Closure Days Altered

Hillsboro Public Works crews will close SE Minter Bridge Road between SE River Road and TV Highway Aug. 22 and 23 for a pavement project.

HILLSBORO, OR — Southwest Hillsboro residents in the Minter Bridge area will need to plan alternate routes to the Northside of Tualatin Valley Highway for two days this month while Hillsboro Public Works crews conduct pavement maintenance on Southeast Minter Bridge Road between Southeast River Road and T.V. Highway.

The city originally scheduled the maintenance project for Aug. 20 and 21, but last week announced a change to the plan due to the unavailability of needed asphalt and other materials, according to Public Works spokeswoman Lindsay Wochnick.

Now, the pavement maintenance project requiring the northernmost block of Southeast Minter Bridge Road to close is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 22, and Thursday, Aug. 23. The work will occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. both days.

During the closure, sidewalks will remain open to pedestrians, but all vehicle and bicycle traffic will need to detour around the construction zone. Vehicle and bicycle access will be restored after 5 p.m. both days.

Local resident and business access will also be maintained at all times. Detouring traffic will need to head either east or west along Southeast River Road during the daytime work hours.

The maintenance project is part of the city's Pavement Management Program, which Wochnick says "strives to make the most effective use of resources to preserve and upgrade the overall condition of the network of over 230.8 centerline miles of roadway maintained by the city."

City employees annually inspect and evaluate the city's roadways, Wochnick explained. They reportedly look for irregularities and imperfections in the roadways that could be signs of bigger problems underneath the pavement. The information gathered during the inspections and evaluations is then used to help prioritize street projects in and around Hillsboro.

The entire effort is reportedly funded through a mix of local and statewide fees and taxes, such as the gas tax and vehicle registration fee.
