More Trouble for Colt Lyerla: Busted for Heroin Over the Weekend

The former Hillsboro High School standout was arrested by Tigard police.

More legal problems for Colt Lyerla, the former Hillsboro High School standout who went on to play for the Oregon Ducks before running into trouble.

Lyerla was arrested Sunday by Tigard Police, charged with heroin possession, and booked into Washington County Jail.

Tigard Police spokesman Jim Wolf tells Patch that Lyerla was arrested at the Chevron Station on Pacific Highway by 217.

Wolf says Lyerla was initially resistant but not to the point where it was worth charging him with resistance.

He was a standout star at Hillsboro - recruited by schools over the country - who went on to play for Chip Kelly at Oregon.

He caught fire right away - starting as a freshman, catching seven passes for 147 years and five touchdowns.

But trouble came his junior year - missing a game against Tennessee, which resulted in his being suspended for a game against Colorado. He ended up quitting the team. Soon after he was arrested for cocaine possession. He pleaded guilty.

He has tried to get back into football but without much success. He did sign with the Portland Steel of the Arena Football League but has never been able to get the interest of a NFL team.
