New Board Members Elected To Hillsboro School District

The four new board members are expected to be sworn in July 11 at the board's first meeting of the new fiscal year.

HILLSBORO, OR — Voters on Tuesday elected four new board members to the Hillsboro School District: Erika Lopez, Mark Watson, Martin Granum, and Jaci Spross. They will replace outgoing board members Janeen Sollman, Glenn Miller, Monte Akers, and Erik Seligman.

Watson and Granum defeated incumbents Miller and Akers for board positions 2 and 3, respectively. Defeating candidates Jen Brandse and April Davis for Position 1, Lopez will replace Sollman — who was elected to the state legislature in the November 2016 elections. In the most contested race with four candidates, Spross came out ahead of Alexander Flores, Kevin Currin-Smith, and Brian Lyles to assume Position 6. Outgoing Position 6 board member Seligman did not run for re-election.

The new board members are expected to be sworn in July 11 at the board's first meeting of the new fiscal year.

"Citizen oversight is an important part of our local school system, and bringing additional voices and ideas to the table is at the heart of why this governance structure exists. I look forward to getting to know each of the new Board members and collaborating with them on how we can best achieve the goals of our Strategic Plan."
