'Picture Hillsboro' Seeks Submissions for Public Gallery

HILLSBORO, OR - The city of Hillsboro is seeking submissions of existing works of 2 dimensional art to include in their Public Art Collection. This purpose of this collection is to include works that are indicative of what it means to live in Hillsboro.

The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017.

The work should be representative of the people/places, landscape or overarching culture of the City of Hillsboro. The art is selected upon the criteria of artistic excellence, representation of Hillsboro and appropriateness for a public setting. Whichever piece is selected cannot exceed a purchasing value of $500 and it will be displayed in the City of Hillsboro Civic Center auditorium-this is where the City Council meets.

Student work and photography are not eligible for entry, and local residents of Hillsboro are strongly encouraged to submit work. For a complete list of submission deadlines and criteria, check out submission guidelines.

Reproductions of the works selected will be presented to dignitaries and ambassadors when the visit the city. The works will be considered as community-building creations and the artist chosen will be presented with a key to the city.

The City of Hillsboro goes to great lengths to ensure that the arts community is well funded and supported by local government. The gallery includes photography, installation pieces and portraits of both landscapes and important historical figures in Hillsboro.
