Storm Sewer Maintenance Project Begins Sunday In Hillsboro
Hillsboro Public Works crews will clean the city's storm sewer system on three roads from Sunday to Thursday between 7 p.m. and 4:30 a.m.

HILLSBORO, OR — Residents along three separate roadways in Hillsboro were notified this week of a four-night sewer maintenance project to clean and inspect storm sewer pipes. The project is expected to run from this Sunday, Sept. 16, through Sept. 20.
The storm sewer system in Hillsboro reportedly carries rainfall and other drainage to rivers and streams through 250 miles of underground pipes, culverts, catch basins, open ditches, streams, creeks, water quality facilities, and wetlands located throughout the city. The system is cleaned every four years, according to Hillsboro Water and Public Works spokeswoman Lindsay Wochnick.
The maintenance work beginning this weekend will reportedly take place between 7 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. all four days, though each affected road will remain open to traffic. One of the projects, however, will require at least a one-lane closure, Wochnick said,

Crews will work on three sections of road near Hops stadium/Gordon Faber Recreational Complex:
- Along Northeast 59th Avenue, between Northeast Evergreen Parkway and Northeast Bennett Street;
- Along Northeast Evergreen Parkway, between Northeast 59th Avenue and Northeast Cornelius Pass Road; and
- Along Northeast Imbrie Drive, between Northeast Evergreen Parkway and Northeast Cornelius Pass Road.
The work on Northeast Imbrie Drive will reportedly require a one-lane closure due to the location of the storm sewer pipeline. Flaggers will be in place, and the road will open completely by 4:30 a.m. each day, Wochnick said.

Residents are encouraged to help their city's work crews by doing their part to prevent obstructions from entering their local storm sewer drainage systems. Wochnick offered the following suggestions:
- "Keep streams and other conveyances that carry rainfall runoff through your property free of obstructions and debris such as trees, tall bushes, and trash. A plugged or obstructed drain cannot carry water and could cause flooding."
- "Never dump or throw anything into the streets or storm sewer system as the system conveys storm water directly to local waterways."
Residents can report storm drainage issues to the city's Public Works Department during business hours Monday through Friday by calling 503-615-6509. Emergency issues after business hours should be directed to 503-629-0111.
