Virginia Amtrak Crash: Oregon Lawmaker Aboard Deadly Train Crash
Rep. Greg Walden tweeted after an Amtrak he was aboard crashed into a dump truck.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- An Oregon lawmaker told followers he was fine after a train he was riding, along with other GOP leaders, crashed into a dump truck Wednesday, killing one person. The crash happened in Charlottesville, Virginia as lawmakers were en route to a retreat.
In a tweet, Rep. Greg Walden said "We're fine, but our train hit a garbage truck. Members with medical training are assisting the drivers of the truck."
The White House released a statement to the media stating that one person was killed and another was injured.

"The President has been fully briefed on the situation in Virginia and is receiving regular updates," Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. said. "There are no serious injuries among members of Congress or their staff. Senior Administration officials are in regular contact with Amtrak and state and local authorities. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that has been affected by this incident."
Officials said the Amtrak left Washington, D.C. around 8:30 a.m. and crashed into the garbage truck around 11:20 a.m. Lawmakers tweeted the impact threw passengers from their seats, but everyone on the train was OK.

More than 100 GOP lawmakers were aboard the train. The leaders were on their way to Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia for a three-day retreat when the incident happened.
