We are in this together.

Education is a perfect example. As City Council members, whether we have kids in the school right now or not, we are in this together to support students, families, educators — and everyone in our community.

Teachers and staff in the Hillsboro School District serve 22,000 students. They are amazing people. They take care of our children, train our future leaders, and lift up our society by enlightening young minds.

We praise Hillsboro School District leaders for their courage in prioritizing health and safety. We know there are no easy decisions in a pandemic.

Essential Workers, Essential Support

Right now, the City is partnering with HSD leaders to help teachers and support staff, first responders and other essential workers — so they can continue to serve everyone else.

As school returns online, this partnership will offer a market-rate cost for teachers and essential workers’ to ensure their school-aged children are supported during distance learning.

Helping our teachers continue to teach will help health care workers, retail professionals, delivery drivers, small business owners, and so many others.

We are all connected.

Partnership During a Pandemic

This program is one example of our City’s strong partnership with HSD to serve students, families, and educators, as well as the community by helping our essential workers fulfill their public service roles.

There are many more stories of staying together. Our librarians are sharing video storytimes and other learning experiences through Facebook and other social media. Our Parks & Recreation Department team is making backyard science lessons and much more, which you can also find on their Facebook channel. The months ahead won’t be easy. These are extraordinary times. We are an extraordinary community. We are in this together.
