$16.1M Project Will Shut Down Tyson Ave. Through July In Abington

A $16.1 million project overhauling a stretch of Tyson Avenue and adjacent roads will be ongoing for the next several months.

ABINGTON, PA — Tyson Avenue will be shut down beginning later this month through late July for construction, officials announced.

The shut down will be in place between Edge Hill Road and Custer Avenue starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 25.

Delays should be expected throughout the four-month closure, as motorists are detroued over Edge Hill Road and Easton Road.

In addition to the shut down, Tyson Avenue will be restricted to one lane each way between Edge Hill Road and Jenkintown Road.

The planned work by PennDOT is manifold: new curbing, parking lanes, sidewalks, signalized intersections, road upgrades, drainage improvements, green stormwater work, and other flooding concerns will all be addressed.

Adjacent work will also be completed on Edge Hill, Jenkintown, and a few other nearby roads.

The $16.1 million project is being financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds, officials said. C. Abbonizio Contractors, Inc. is in charge of the project.
