$3.1 Million Bridge Repair To Begin In Abington, Road Closed
Limekiln Pike will shut down, and backups and delays are expected in the area as construction gets underway.
ABINGTON, PA — A significant traffic shift is scheduled to begin this weekend as crews will shut down Limekiln Pike for bridge construction, PennDOT announced. The $3.1 million project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
The closure will be in placed from Saturday, April 24 through Monday, May 17 between Willow Grove Avenue and Mount Carmel Avenue in Abington and Cheltenham.
Crews will rehabilitate the bridge, built in 1959, that carries Limekiln Pike over SEPTA's Regional Rail tracks, officials said. The bridge is in serious condition due to deterioration from age, and what PennDOT called "severe cracking."

Delays and backups around the area are expected, and motorists should plan accordingly. Detours will be in place over Mount Carmel Avenue and Easton Road.
The work will include removing and replacing the bridge's superstructure, including sidewalks, barriers, and parapets. There will also be a new guide rail, concrete slabs, and resurfaced road for 75 feet in either direction.
