Abington Hosting Free Paper Shredding Event Saturday

During the shredding event, organizers from local groups will also collect donations of non-perishable food and gift cards.

ABINGTON, PA — Abington Township is inviting residents this Saturday to a free paper shredding event that aims to help people protect sensitive information and divert papers from landfills to recycling centers.

The event will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Abington Township Highway Yards at 2201 Florey Lane.

In a release, Abington Township encouraged attendees to bring papers that contain sensitive information such as obsolete tax documents, bank statements or credit card statements.

Before heading to the shredder, attendees should remove all staples, paper clips and binder covers from the documents.

Items like magazines, books, newspapers, CDs, cardboard or plastic should not be placed through the shredder, the press release noted.

Attendees are limited to four 1.2 cubic-foot boxes of paper per carload. Each container cannot weigh more than 30 pounds, according to the release.

The township stated all shredded material will be recycled.

During the food drive, the township's Environmental Advisory Council, the Interfaith Food Cupboard and the Salem Baptist Church will accept non-perishable food donations as well as Giant gift cards.
