Abington HS Graduate Leah Nugent Advances to Olympic 400 Meter Hurdle Final

Good luck to former PA state champion Leah Nugent, who will compete for Jamaica in the Olympic 400 meter hurdle final Thursday night.

Former Pennsylvania state champion and state 300 meter hurdle record holder Leah Nugent will compete for Jamaica in the Olympic 400 meter hurdle final Thursday night.

Nugent qualified for the final after her 54.98 performance in the semifinals on Wednesday. She placed third in her heat, qualifying based on time. She is the seventh seed in a field of eight in the final, and will race from lane 2.

The event will take place at 9:15 p.m. and will be broadcast on NBC 10.

Nugent competed for Abington High School and was one of the best hurdlers in Pennsylvania state history during her tenure. She went on to compete at the NCAA level for both Virginia Tech and the University of Kentucky.
