Abington Memorial Gets 3rd Straight 'A' Rating For Safety

Abington Memorial Hospital has earned its third consecutive "A" grade for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group.

ABINGTON, PA — Abington Memorial Hospital has earned its third consecutive "A" grade for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group.

The nonprofit group, which releases the safety ratings twice a year, found that of the more than 2,600 hospitals graded in the country, just 33 percent earned an "A" grade.

The hospital celebrated the rating. An "A" was also awarded to Abington Health Lansdale Hospital.

"It is a tremendous honor for both Abington and Lansdale hospitals to be awarded ‘A’ grades from the Leapfrog Group,” said Meg McGoldrick, president, Abington – Jefferson Health. "Patient safety is among our organization’s core values. This recognition is a reflection of our continued commitment to delivering the safest and highest level of care to the members of our community."

The Leapfrog Group, an independent watchdog organization, assigns grades of 'A' to 'F' to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

Leapfrog relies on a panel of experts to select the measures used in the methodology and to develop a scoring system. (You can read more about the letter grades here.)
