Cheltenham Man, Postmaster, World War II Navy Vet, Dies At 92
Local man John Walter Erb, a World War II veteran and longtime postmaster, is remembered for his love of reading and sense of humor.

NORTH WALES, PA — John Walter Erb, 92, of North Wales and formerly of Cheltenham, died Monday, December 17, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Florence (Williams) Erb, his wife of 63 years.
Born October 2, 1926 in Southampton, he was a son of the late Arthur and Irene (Moreford) Erb.

A graduate of Cheltenham High School and Temple University, Mr. Erb served his country honorably in the US Navy during World War II. He was employed with the Cheltenham Postal Service for 35 years, retiring as Postmaster in 1984.
John was a member of the East Cheltenham Community Council and was Past Commander of the American Legion Post #497, Cheltenham.

He was a dedicated member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Cheltenham, and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, North Wales. John was also a voracious reader and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, John A. Erb (Jane Chung) of Willow Grove, Doretta E. Roessler (Donald R., Jr.) of Harleysville, and Russell F. Erb of North Wales; his son-in-law, David B. Robbins of Huntingdon Valley; and three grandchildren, John D. Erb, Sarah E. Roessler, and Donald R. Roessler III.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carole M. Robbins; two brothers, Warren and Clayton; and two sisters, Irene and Hannah.
Relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 211 S. Main St., North Wales, PA 19454, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
