Gritty In Glenside: Flyers Mascot Leads Local Caravan This Week
Gritty is coming to town, leading the Flyers "Community Caravan" pep rally to kick off the restarted hockey season.

GLENSIDE, PA — 2020 has been a year of bizarre firsts, and that will continue this week, as the Flyers' beloved mascot Gritty will lead a mid-summer parade in the suburbs, months after the NHL season should've ended, and not to celebrate a championship.
Gritty will be Glenside on Wednesday, Aug. 5 as part of the Flyers Community Caravan Tour, which is serving as a "traveling pep rally" to spark up support for the orange and black as their restarted season gets underway.
The Caravan is actually an annual event, stopping across the Philadelphia area each year. However, it typically serves to simply spread Flyers awareness and renew interest in hockey during a down period. This year, with no NHL games since March and the season and playoffs getting back underway in August, things have a slightly different tone.

The Caravan began its tours around the Greater Philadelphia Area back on July 7, with stops in the city, the suburbs, and the Jersey Shore.
Beyond just Gritty, in case that wasn't reason enough, the Caravan also features various Flyers alumni, the Flyers Ice Team, and various summer-themed Flyers giveaways, like beach balls, bucket hats, Frisbees, kites, and sunglasses.
