I-476 Heavily Backed Up In Montgomery County; 45 MPH Speed Limit In Effect

Restrictions have been put in place on I-476, as traffic is heavy in both directions - but especially northbound - near Lansdale: breaking.

LANSDALE, PA -- Several restrictions have been put in place on I-476 during the duration of the snowstorm Tuesday, as the road has been hit intermittently by heavy traffic, especially northbound, near Lansdale.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike has been operating under a Weather Emergency since Monday night. For I-476, that means a 45 mile per hour speed limit is in effect.

Moreover, tandem truck trailers, empty trailers, towed trailers, buses, recreational vehicles and motorcycles are not allowed on the turnpike until further notice.

By late morning Tuesday, as snow and freezing rain continued to accumulate around the area, the traffic was heaviest northbound out of Plymouth Meeting to Blue Bell, with patches southbound experiencing delays near Whitpain Hills. Heavy, stop and go traffic is the worst near Towamencin, in both directions, as of around 11:20 a.m.

An accident on I-76 eastbound at the I-476 South Exit 331 - which had been causing delays - was cleared before 11 a.m.

Motorists are advised not to attempt to pass turnpike trucks plowing or otherwise serving the highway.
