Tourism officials are pushing for a massive new $50 million sports complex in Montgomery County large enough to host national events.

The Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Bureau released a feasibility study on Thursday stating that a sports complex could generate as much as $100 million for the local economy in the first five years of operation.

The study found that Montgomery County was ideally situated to profit from a facility with 12 outdoor fields and 108,000 square feet of indoor competition room.

During the first five years, hundreds of thousands of hotel rooms would be booked during hundreds of tournaments and events, some of them of national and regional importance, the study said.

Funding and a location for the facility have not yet been identified. County officials said that they had not been approached with any kind of formal proposal, so the project is still very much in its pre-planning stages.
