Montco's Springfield Township HS Cancels Football Season

Sad news for one Montgomery County high school will mean altered schedules for several neighboring teams they were scheduled to play.

Montgomery County's Springfield Township High School has cancelled their 2016 football season due to an insufficient number of players, according to a letter sent to parents on Monday.

The letter noted that officials had postponed making the decision in hopes that the team could recruit additional players from the student body. Ultimately, they said the decision to cancel the season was a safety issue. The decision was praised by StopCTE.org, a nonprofit focused on fighting brain diseases associated with excessive head trauma and concussions.

Springfield lost their only game of the year, a scrimmage against Octorara, 47-20 last Friday night.
