Study Opportunity for Children 11-14 at Temple University

Psychology Lab at Temple University looking for families in the community to contribute to science! Fun, safe, and compensation available!

(maria antoni)

Hi there! The Social Developmental Neuroscience Lab is a psychology research lab at Temple University and needs your help!

We are looking for kids, teens, and their parents in the community ages 11-14 to participate in our newest study, Social Processing Over Time, or, SPOT! The purpose of this study is to broadly look at the how kids interact with one another.
Although we are not currently asking families to travel to Temple University out of an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S., we are still recruiting families to participate in our studies at a later time!
The study lab visit will span 2-6 hours in total with the potential of being asked to complete some additional tasks at home. Your family will be paid $10-25 per hour in gift cards or cash with the opportunity to win extra money as well. During the study visit, your child might play some computer games, complete surveys and participate in an fMRI scan, an EEG and/or Eye-tracking. You (the parent) will be asked to complete some questionnaires.
So, what is an EEG?
- EEG or electroencephalogram measures the electrical activity of the brain. To do this, we place a cap, similar to a swim cap, that has some button-like devices that record brain activity We might use these to measure your child's brain activity while they play games on our computer. EEG is painless and non-invasive.
Okay, then what is an fMRI?
- fMRI scanner is a giant magnet that is used to take pictures of the brain. The fMRI scanner can be a little noisy and requires the participant to stay very still while it takes pictures. If we ask your child to participate in this, we'll make sure they're comfortable before their scan. Like the EEG, it is safe and non- invasive.
And, what is eye-tracking?
- Eye-tracking measures the way a person's eyes and face move by using a small camera while the person makes decisions about things they look at on a computer screen, or, while they play some games. Like EEG and fMRI, this is safe and non-invasive.
If your family is interested in participating, please email the lab at sdnlab@temple.edu or fill out a participant screener here: http://www.sdnlaboratory.com/p... if interested.
