Woman Contracted Herpes From Willow Grove Makeup Counter: Lawsuit
The makeup artist inside the mall did not use a disposable brush, leading to "severe and permanent" damage, the suit claims.
WILLOW GROVE, PA — A woman who had her makeup done at a counter in the Willow Grove Park Mall contracted herpes when the artist did not use a disposable brush, according to a lawsuit filed against the makeup company.
The incident occurred back in June 2019, when Tammeka Hill went to get her makeup done at the M.A.C. cosmetics store inside the Macy's.
When applying eyeliner, the artist at the store utilized a used brush, which Hill said she pointed out to the artist, the suit states.

However, the artist continued applying the makeup. Some weeks later, Hill noticed "extreme pain" in her eye, according to the lawsuit.
"I couldn't see, I had to be taken to the emergency room," she told 6ABC. That's when she was diagnosed with ocular herpes.

The infection is recurring, so it's impacted her life continuously, and she said it eventually led to her losing a high-paying job.
The suit, filed in federal court in the southern district of New York, asked for $3 million in damages.
Macy's, M.A.C., and, Estee Lauder, which is M.A.C.'s parent company, are all named in the suit.
Estee Lauder did not immediately respond for a request from Patch for comment on this story.
