3 Lower Merion Boards, Commissions Need Applicants

The Environmental Advisory Council, Shade Tree Commission, and Civil Service Commission all have seats that need to be filled.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Lower Merion Township residents have little time to apply for vacancies on three boards and commissions in the townships.

Qualified Lower Merion residents are sought to serve on Environmental Advisory Council, Shade Tree Commission, and Civil Service Commission.

Applications are available online here and are due Friday.

Environmental Advisory Council

The Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) is composed of seven residents of the Township who serve four-year terms of office. The EAC provides advice to the Board of Commissioners and Planning Commission for the promotion and conservation of natural resources and for the protection and improvement of the quality of the environment within the Township. Experience in municipal sustainability planning, environmental planning or landscape design/architecture or other professional with knowledge and familiarity with BMPs for green stormwater infrastructure (GSI), natural resources management, LEED certification and/or green building/construction codes and regulation is preferred but not required. Shade Tree Commission

The Shade Tree Commission (STC) is composed of not more than nine residents of the Township who serve five-year terms of office. The STC has exclusive custody and control of all shade trees on Township property and is authorized to plant, remove, maintain and protect all shade trees on the public streets and highways in accordance with the published rules and regulations of the Township. Experience in arboriculture, forestry or landscape design/architecture is preferred but not required. Civil Service Commission Alternate

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) is composed of three members and two alternates who are qualified electors of the Township who serve six-year terms. The CSC oversees the hiring of police officers and the promotional process within the Police Department. An alternate may participate in any proceeding or discussion of the CSC but shall not be entitled to vote as a regular member of the Board unless designated as a voting member to form a quorum.
